It does take the burden of shipping and inventory management off your shoulders, but there are still many time-consuming factors that these influencers won’t mention in their ads or classes.

Below, I will disclose the facts you need to know before starting dropshipping in Pakistan

Facts About Dropshipping in Pakistan: What Influencers Are Not Telling You

Many influencers present dropshipping as the easiest, most passive way to make money in Pakistan. But the reality is far more complex. While there’s a possibility to succeed, new entrepreneurs must know the following key challenges and facts before investing in costly courses.

1- Dropshipping is Not a Part-Time Job

Dropshipping is not only about listing products and making sales. It is a full-time commitment that you will be responsible for

  • Product Research: Constant research for new trending products to stay competitive.
  • Customer Service: Managing customer inquiries, returns, and disputes requires daily attention.
  • Order Fulfillment: While you won’t be handling shipping and inventory, your job still includes coordinating orders between customers and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery, and managing potential delays.
  • Constant Monitoring: Dropshipping demands daily monitoring of ads, inventory levels, and supplier updates for smoother operations.
  • Scaling Requires Even More Work: As you grow, managing multiple products and suppliers becomes more complex, increasing the workload.

2- Niche Selection: The Competition is Intense

Choosing a profitable niche for dropshipping in Pakistan has become more challenging. It requires extensive research to find products with high demand but lower competition, which is uncertain in Pakistan’s competitive market. Several established sellers have already populated the demanding niches, leaving newcomers struggling to stand out.

3- Product Hunting is more Difficult than Ever

While suppliers are easy to find, searching for the winning products to sell is still challenging due to high competition. Popular items can quickly become outdated with fast-changing customer preferences, so constant product research is required to stay ahead.

New dropshippers often resell products in low demand, resulting in minimal profits and high losses.

4- Handling Disputes as a Middleman

Being a dropshipper, you work as a middleman between suppliers and customers. It is your job to handle disputes and complaints, even if they are due to the supplier’s fault (like shipping delay or sending a broken product). The process is stressful and time-consuming.

You have no direct control over the product’s quality because you depend on the supplier. Therefore, if the supplier fails to deliver quality on time, your store’s reputation suffers.

5- Limited Payment Gateways Options

Payment is an obvious challenge for dropshipping in Pakistan because the country does not support international payment methods like PayPal and Stripe. The local options, such as JazzCash, EasyPaisa, Payoneer, etc, come with their fee structure and criteria.

Many international payment gateways and shipping service providers charge high fees for processing payments combining tax, which can eat up your thin profit.

You might like to open a free US-based bank account using Elevate Pay, which was recently launched in Pakistan to help people with international payments. I tested the app myself. Find more information on it in my review here: Is Elevate Pay Safe for International Payments? Avoid Scams!

6- High Marketing Costs

Since you don’t manage product prices, inventory, or shipping, marketing becomes your primary tool to drive sales. You must invest in channels like Facebook, Google Ads, YouTube, and TikTok marketing. The cost of ads is higher due to competition.

You probably have heard from these influencers that you can start from only Rs. 300, but they won’t tell you about the charges each platform deducts above the fee, including the taxes on each international transaction from 2024.

Without a sufficient budget for marketing in a targeted market, it isn’t easy to stand out. The more you market, the more you make sales.

Final Words

Although dropshipping in Pakistan is often presented as a low-investment, part-time business, the reality is very different. A large amount of investment in marketing is required to make constant sales, along with daily attention to product research and other dropshipping jobs to keep your business up and running.

At last, dropshipping in Pakistan can be profitable, but it is not the easy money scheme pictured by some influencers. Entrepreneurs need a strong strategy, continuous market research, and patience to succeed in dropshipping.

Therefore, invest in courses only if you are willing to take on these challenges and work on them. The industry has diverse opportunities along with competition.
